The Colorado River headwaters are in the Rocky Mountain National Park (north central Colorado).

It flows west through Grand Lake (Shadow Mountain Reservoir), & Lake Grandby Reservoir.  The

river course then runs southwest through southeast Utah to Lake Powell (Glen Canyon Dam).  It then

flows south, then west through the Grand Canyon in Arizona.  The river course forms the state line

between Arizona & Nevada where it flows south through Lake Mead (Hoover Dam), and onto

Lake Mohave (Davis Dam).  As the river continues south it forms the state line between Arizona &

California, where it flows through Lake Havasu (Parker Dam), the Palo Verde Diversion Dam and finally

through the Imperial Dam, before it empties into the Gulf of California.

When the Glen Canyon Dam was built, near Page AZ, Lake Powell (Reservoir)

was formed in the Glen Canyon UT, from the convergence of several rivers.

The  rivers are, the Green River which joins the Colorado River, Southwest of

Moab, the Escalante River, flows in from the West, just North of “The Hole in

The Rock”, and the San Juan River flowing from the East, merges Northeast of

the Rainbow Bridge.  The lake is about 180 miles long with a 2,000 mile shore line.
